20 years of life-saving care … by ground and air
When an infant or child faces serious injury or illness, rapid transportation that stabilizes and provides pediatric critical care expertise can be the difference between life and death.
The KIDS Team mobile ICU
brings highly skilled pediatric and neonatal critical care nurses and respiratory therapists, along with neonatal and pediatric-appropriate equipment, directly to their patients by ground or flight. Working in collaboration with doctors at Randall Children's Hospital, the goal of the KIDS Team is to provide the same advanced level of care during transport that a patient would receive in one of our critical care units.
"The KIDS Team is an exceptional service for our patients and our community," said Mark Buchholz, M.D.
, pediatric critical care and emergency care physician at Randall Children's Hospital
. "The care our team provides to our patients during transport complements the care provided once they are admitted to the hospital."
The KIDS Team transports critically ill patients with many types of conditions, most often infants with complications from prematurity, pediatric patients with respiratory compromise and children with sepsis or other life-threatening illnesses. No matter the illness, the KIDS Team will transport any child that would benefit from their services. “We view each transport as an integral part of the continuum of care for the patients’ at Randall Children's Hospital,” said Mike Belair, clinical supervisor for the KIDS Team.
Traveling from as far as Alaska to California and Pennsylvania since 1997, the KIDS Team has transported over 11,200 patients and is ready for immediate activation 24-hours-a-day, 365 days a year.
