About Me:

Nathalie McDowell Johnson, M.D., FACS, is Medical Director of Legacy Cancer Institute, Legacy Breast Health Centers and a board-certified surgical oncologist with Legacy Medical Group. Prior to returning to Portland and Legacy Good Samaritan in 1996, she was Commissioner of Health for the Territory of the United States Virgin Islands. Besides her clinical practice, Dr. Johnson plays an active role in research projects related to breast cancer.

Think post op patients with incisional wound issues should promptly be referred to wound clinic. I knew to ask for this, but most pts don't and wounds should be optimally dealt with, i.e. If causing pain or functional limitations.

Dr. Johnson and her staff are always very attentive to our every need. On this particular day she was running behind . We arrived at the office at 9:50 for our 10 a.m. Appointment and were informed she was running behind. By the time we completed our appointment and scheduled upcoming visits it was 11:30 a.m.. This was an unusual amount of time for a brief check-up and to schedule a follow-up visit.

Dr Johnson was extremely knowledgeable. She was kind and gentle while discussing a new cancer diagnosis. She had a great worksheet which she reviewed and gave to me so I could go back and reflect on the I formation that was given.

First visit for cancer dx. Met with 4 different staff. Very comprehensive and positive experience. Very good patient education. Had to wait 45 min, but I work in healthcare and understand patients don't fit in neat time slots.

Dr. Johnson is excellent. She did a breast exam, and I have never had one so thorough. I saw her because I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Before that appointment I had been depressed, confused and lost. After the appointment I was clear, confident and hopeful. This was the first appointment with her, and I walked out with an understand of how sick I was, and all of my appointments, including surgery, scheduled. The Breast Cancer unit (which was developed by Dr. Johnson) is exceptional.
