About Me:

Valerie Halpin, M.D., received her medical training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. While at Washington University she completed a residency in general sugery and a research fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery. Before joining Legacy Good Samaritan Weight Management Institute in 2008, Dr. Halpin taught as an Assistant Professor of Surgery focusing on bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. She also served as the Integrated Surgical Disciplines Clerkship Director. Dr. Halpin continues to enjoy surgical education as the Bariatric Surgery Fellowship program director at Legacy Weight and Diabetes Institute. Dr. Halpin has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters on bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery and surgical education.

I was very happy with this experience overall! The staff at checking in, making sure on my insurance, waiting to speak with the doctor, and then the whole experience with the doctor was just wonderful!!

The lady that scheduled color up appointments is consistently rude. Never nice or approachable. She made my preop appts without asking me my schedule, so when I asked to change them due to my work schedule, she was extremely rude. Unprofessional

I am very comfortable talking yo Dr Halpin & know I will respect her medical advice.

The doctor is very knowledgable but I feel she has poor listening skills and is rigid in her thinking. She is also not very welcoming or supportive, and spends 90% of the visit time looking into/working on her computer rather than conversing with me. This is extremely off-putting.

I was told prior this visit would last 15 minutes. I spent almost an hour waiting which impacted my schedule. The doctor is an amazing surgeon but some forms of communication one on one is missing. After a year of going through this wanted to get more answers for where I was in relation to ratio of goals. Had to ask many questions & left with some unanswered as to some symptoms I am still having. As having to pay out of pocket even with insurance I do not want to waste a visit with no added details.

Dr Halpin and the entire team at LWDI is amazing. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking care. She is an amazing provider, incredibly smart, sensitive and skilled.

Dr Halpin is an excellent bariatric surgeon. She is very knowledgeable and helpful.
