Nurse and Patient Navigators

Legacy's Cancer Nurse Navigator Program

A diagnosis of cancer can be overwhelming, but Legacy's nurse navigators and patient navigator are here to help. Our nurse navigators can make this difficult time more manageable and less frightening for you and your loved ones. Nurse navigators are an active resource and support for our newly diagnosed cancer patients.

From diagnosis through recovery, your cancer nurse navigator will help you:

  • Understand your diagnosis and treatment options
  • Know what to expect from your treatment, and manage any symptoms and side effects
  • Find your way to your appointments
  • Convey questions or concerns to your doctors and your health care team
  • Coordinate care with other providers such as pharmacists, dieticians and social workers
  • Understand your medications
  • Use Legacy's many cancer support services 
  • Refer you to the Legacy Cancer Healing Center, for integrative care and suvivorship services designed to help improve your quality of life
  • Connect with community resources

Experienced care

Our nurse navigators have experience and training in caring for cancer patients. The designation of OCN -Oncology Certified Nurse - indicates additional education and national certification in cancer nursing.

Legacy's patient navigator Daniel Osborn, ACS at Legacy Good Samaritan is here to support you and your family and can be reached at 503-413-8052.

Legacy Cancer Institute has arranged with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to provide our patients with a patient navigator. He works alongside our nurse navigators to help connect you with Legacy and American Cancer Society resources, including:

  • Financial arrangements
  • Transportation
  • Help with job-related and family concerns
  • Lodging, if you or your family are coming from outside Portland
  • Community support such as therapy, classes, and groups
  • Legacy's cancer support services 
  • Medically-approved literature about cancer
