Infectious diseases specialists
One of the benefits of our care for children is the involvement of our specialists in infectious diseases.
We have four physicians on staff who are board-certified in infectious diseases. The doctors see children with complicated infectious diseases in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. They staff Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel and Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.
Among the conditions they treat:
- Infections requiring prolonged IV antibiotics
- Congenital infections
- Hospital follow-up of invasive infections
- Infections in patients with weakened immune systems
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Infections from tropical diseases
Our infectious diseases doctors are completely integrated with the other pediatric providers. A prime example is their work with pediatric orthopedic specialists — an infectious diseases expert often examines a child at the same appointment as an orthopedic specialist.
They also are closely involved in the care of patients in our neurosurgery, lung and Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders programs and are integrated with our Imaging services.
Each of infectious diseases doctors is a member of our pediatric hospitalist team — doctors who are in the hospital full-time to assist community doctors in the care of patients.
Our infectious diseases doctors keep clinic hours throughout the week for the convenience of patients who are not hospitalized.
