About Me:

Dr Stenger is a palliative care consultant at Legacy Health and Medical Director of the Palliative Care Service. He came to Legacy in 2013 after 22 years of teaching rural family medicine with the University of Massachusetts and for a decade before that in northern California. He received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut and he did his residency in Redding CA, part of the UC Davis system. He was a founder of a rural health clinic in far northern CA, working there until 1991 when he and family relocated to the East Coast. His clinical interests include working with patients and families to ensure their medical treatment aligns with their goals, and helping those coping with illness to be able to live as fully as possible. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, along with biking, yoga and choral singing.
