The Department of Continuing Medical Education at Legacy Health seeks to provide high-quality, evidence-based educational opportunities that are designed to advance physicians’ competence, enhance practice performance, and/or improve patient outcomes.
Content will be based on strategically focused knowledge gaps, quality and patient safety initiatives, practical evidence, examples of best clinical practice and Maintenance of Certification guidelines directed to a broad variety of medical conditions and innovations in practice and/or procedures and specialty program certifications. The content of each activity will support one or more of the ACGME, ABMS, or IOM Professional competencies.
Legacy CME activities will focus on the needs of Legacy affiliated physician staff, and the physician involved interdisciplinary teams within which they practice. Additional identified learners include house staff and community physicians, as well as physicians in selected distant sites. In addition, we will jointly provide CME activities with non-profit organizations, and provider-based organizations such as physician organizations, rural hospitals and physician practices.
Types of activities provided
Legacy CME activities will be offered via live programs and electronic transmissions to medical facilities primarily throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Educational activities will include regularly scheduled series (didactic, case based conferences, and journal clubs), single and multi-day conferences, enduring materials, and internet point-of-care learning.
The expected result of Legacy CME educational activities is to improve physician knowledge, competence and/or performance in practice that leads to improvement in patient outcomes. We will measure changes using a variety of evaluation methods: post session surveys that ask for a commitment to change practice/behavior; skills-based testing; posttests; or 6-month post session evaluations that elicit self-declared changes in clinical practice. An annual overall evaluation of the CME program will be conducted to guide on-going improvements.
