Guidelines

This test can be ordered as a reflex test on ASCUS Paps or as a screening test for women over 30 years of age. Please refer to current ASCCP Cervical Cytology Management Algorithm guidelines if necessary.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

ThinPrep or SurePath: The specimen can be collected as an adjunctive test to a Pap (residual fluid volume following Pap prep must be at least 1.0 mL). A liquid based Pap sample can also be used for stand-alone HPV with Genotyping testing. No concurrent Pap evaluation would be reported in this scenario.

Handling

All specimen containers must be properly labeled with patient’s first and last name and date of birth.

Minimum Volume

1.0 mL residual ThinPrep or SurePath fluid after Pap processing

Rejection Criteria

ThinPrep specimens should be rejected if blood is greater than 1.5% and SurePath™ specimens rejected if blood is greater than 2.0% of total sample volume.

Stability

Specimens may be stored at 2-30°C for up to 4 weeks.
