ANTIBODY IDENTIFICATION, RED CELL
Antibody Identification - Antibody Identification Panel - Red Cell Panel - Elution Technique
Antibody identification; Direct Coombs', Prewarm technique, Antibody elution and Antigen typing will be performed if indicated. Antibodies identified during prenatal testing and known to cause hemolytic disease of the newborn will be titered.
Panel testing is performed on plasma of patients who have a positive indirect antiglobulin test to identify irregular antibodies. Also necessary before transfusion if antibody screen is positive. Used to work up obstetric patient's positive antibody screen.

Antibody may be too weak to be detected and/or identified. Antibodies to low incidence antigens may not be detected. Presence of auto-antibodies significantly complicates identification of alloantibodies and may in some cases mask their presence.
