Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum, one gold (SST) top tube

Handling

Allow to clot. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately. Pour into 3 plastic tubes and refrigerate. Freeze at -20°C if specimen cannot be assayed within 48 hours.

3.0 mL

Minimum Volume

2.0 mL (whole blood 5.0 mL minimum draw)

Refrigerated (2-8°C) or frozen on dry ice

Rejection Criteria

Plasma, microbially contaminated, heat-treated or specimens containing visible particulates, specimens grossly hemolyzed or lipemic should be avoided

Ambient (20-25°C): 8 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 2 days; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 2 months
