Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Biopsy and/or an Intact Lymph Node

Handling

Use sterile technique. Place specimen in a screw top container and cover with sterile Hanks BSS, normal saline or RPMI transport media. The volume of transport media should be sufficient to keep the specimen from drying out. Do not expose to, or place in, formalin. The specimen needs to be processed the same day as collected and always within 24 hours. STAT delivery is recommended. Approximately a 1.0 cm³ specimen

Rejection Criteria

SPECIMENS SUBMITTED IN OR EXPOSED TO FORMALIN. Rejection is only at the discretion of the Cytogenetics Laboratory.
