Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum, one 4.0 mL gold (SST) top tube OR CSF in a sterile collection container

Handling

Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum OR CSF to an aliquot tube. Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of acute specimens. Mark specimens plainly as Acute or Convalescent.

1.0 mL

Minimum Volume

0.15 mL (Whole Blood 0.6 mL minimum draw)

Contaminated or severely lipemic specimens

Stability

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year, avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles
