Guidelines

For optimal sensitivity, submit specimen during the acute stage of infection. Do NOT submit specimens from patients on broad spectrum antibiotics, or after the third hospitalization day, consider C. difficile testing instead.

Rejection Criteria

Leaky or dry specimen, delayed transport more than 1 hour without use of Enteric Transport and specimens collected from bedpans, contaminated with urine
