Guidelines

For detection of immunoproteins coating red cells (IgG, complement). Useful in evaluation of autoimmune hemolytic anemias, transfusion reactions and erythroblastosis fetalis.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Two full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tubes Infants: one lavender (EDTA) top microtainer tube

Handling

Tubes must be labeled appropriately. Refer to Blood Bank Specimen Collection Guidelines. Diagnosis, transfusion history and all medications received by patient should be included on the requisition.

Preferred Volume

Two full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tubes

Minimum Volume

One lavender (EDTA) top microtainer tube

Ambient or refrigerated

Rejection Criteria

Gross hemolysis, incorrect specimen container, incorrectly labeled or frozen

Stability

Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable
