Guidelines

This test is used for one stool specimen occult blood screening. This is a test for occult or hidden blood. It detects heme, not intact RBC’s. Do not use for specimens visually positive for blood. Use Hemoccult SENSA cards only, observe expiration date. Three sample cards are also available.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Collect stool in dry clean container before contact with toilet bowl water

Handling

Apply thin smear of stool to card sample area. Follow directions on card. For specimen collection and transport, see Preferred Specimen Collection/Transport Guide for Stool Orders. Record time of collection on the card.

1 card or 5.0 gm stool

1 card or 1.0 gm stool
