CSF, one sterile container

Handling

Centrifuge and separate an aliquot of the CSF sample from cellular matter within 1 hour of collection in a screw-top transfer tube containing no additives. 

 

Do not centrifuge the entire specimen if additional testing is (or may be) ordered.

Comments

Specimens that are not separated from cellular matter within 1 hour after collection may show decreased glucose values.  However, due to the irretrievable nature of the CSF specimen, samples will not be rejected for glucose testing by SHS laboratories if not processed within this time frame.
