Guidelines

Detection of both C. trachomatis and Niesseria gonorrhoea from a single sample. For medical purposes, the diagnosis of chlamydiosis or gonorrhea via DNA detection is adequate and has effectively supplanted the culture.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Females: Cobas PCR Female Swab Sample Packet or Cobas PCR Urine Sample Packet.

Males: Cobas PCR Urine Sample Packet only.

Handling

Females: Swab provided in the Cobas Female Sample Packet is submitted in the media provided with the kit. Urine is transferred to the fill line of the PCR media tube provided within 24 hours of collection.

Males: Urine is transferred to the fill line of the PCR media tube provided within 24 hours of collection.

Preferred Volume

Urine to the fill line of the media tube provided in the collection kit.

Minimum Volume

Urine to the fill line of the media tube provided in the collection kit.

Transport

Room temperature.

Rejection Criteria

Urine that has been in the urine collection cup more than 24 hours. Urine collection tubes that are under or over-filled. All collection devices and media except Cobas PCR collection kits.

Stability

Swab or urine in Cobas PCR media tube: Up to one year at 2-8°C.
