Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum or Plasma; SST is preferred. Plain red, PST or EDTA tubes are also acceptable.

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection.

Rejection Criteria

Grossly hemolyzed specimens.  Serum or plasma that has not been separated from the cells within 2 hours after collection.

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient (20-25°C): 5 days; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 14 days; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 12 months
