HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIBODY Mnemonic HEPBCOR Synonym HBcAb - Hepatitis B Core Antibody Total Includes Total (IgG and IgM) Specimen Collection Requirements Collect Serum or plasma (Acceptable anticoagulants include lithium heparin, sodium heparin, di-potassium EDTA) Handling Specimens may be stored on or off the clot, red blood cells, or separator gel for up to 3 days at room temperature (study performed at 23 to 30°C) or up to 7 days at 2-8°C. If testing will be delayed more than 3 days for specimens stored at room temperature or more than 7 days for specimens stored at 2-8°C, remove serum or plasma from the clot, red blood cells, or separator geland store at -20°C or colder. Avoid more than three freeze/thaw cycles. Preferred Volume 2.0 mL Minimum Volume 1.0 mL Transport Refrigerated (2-8°C), if the specimen will be delayed more than 48 hours, freeze serum at ≤ -20°C. Rejection Criteria Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
