Phenotype - HIV Phenotype
Direct measurement of the drug susceptibility of a patient’s HIV-1 virus to all approved antiretrovirals combined with identification of HIV-1 drug resistance mutations by sequencing. Procedure should be used for patients with documented HIV-1 infection and viral loads ≥500 copies/mL.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Must have a recent HIV viral load of >500 copies/mL. Viral loads should be collected either at the same time, or within two weeks prior to collection of HIV Phenotype.
Plasma, two lavender (EDTA) top tubes
Centrifuge within 6 hours and transfer to plastic screw-cap tube. Freeze immediately after centrifugation.
Specimens other than EDTA plasma, specimens not frozen
