Imipramine and its metabolite, Desipramine
Specimen Collection Requirements
Collect specimens for therapeutic monitoring approximately 8-12 hours after last dose.
Serum or Plasma, one 7 mL red, 4 mL dark green (sodium heparin), or 4 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube. SST and PST tubes are NOT recommended.
Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.
1 mL Serum or Plasma (Whole blood 2 mL minimum draw)
Gross hemolysis. Avoid gel separator tubes. If collected in such tubes remove ASAP.
Ambient (20-25°C): 1 week; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 2 weeks; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 6 months
