Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

One sodium flouride/potassium oxalate (grey top) tube.

Handling

Sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate (grey-top) tubes should be brought to lab immediately after collection. If the specimen cannot be delivered to the lab immediately, separate plasma from cells within 15 minutes.

Preferred Volume

1.0 mL

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL

Transport

Separated plasma can be transported at 2-8 degrees Celsius.

Rejection Criteria

Specimens left on cells for more than 15 minutes.

Stability

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient (20-25°C): 8 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 14 days
