Specimen Collection Requirements
24 HOUR URINE COLLECTION WITH NO PRESERVATIVES
Collect urine over 24 hours. Refrigerate during collection. Submit entire volume or mix urine well before removing aliquot. Record collection time interval and total volume on the transport tube and test request form.
Entire volume or aliquote 10 mL with recorded 24hr volume
Specimens left at room temperature for more than 4 hours
Ambient (20-25°C): 4 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 1 week; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 1 year

Due to the variability in urine albumin excretion, two of
three specimens collected within a 3 to 6 month period
should be abnormal before considering a patient to have
fallen into a specific category of abnormal albumin excretion.
