The RPR screening test detects reagin, a substance that may be present in syphilitic persons and occasionally in serum from persons with acute or chronic conditions. Reactive results support diagnosis of early, late and latent subclinical syphilis.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Serum, one gold (SST) top tube
Allow blood to clot, centrifuge and pour serum into a plastic tube.
Plasma and spinal fluid specimens, specimens with hemolysis
Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: up to 5 days; Frozen at -20°C: 1 year
