Guidelines

Patient should obtain collection instructions form and collection container BEFORE collecting sample. See Patient Instructions for Collecting a Post Vasectomy Sample.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Patient must abstain for at least three days prior to collection

Collect

Semen in a sterile container

Handling

Keep specimen at room temperature

Preferred Volume

Entire sample must be submitted.

Minimum Volume

Minimum of 0.5 mL required for complete technical analysis.

Transport

Entire sample must be submitted to the lab as soon as possible

Rejection Criteria

Patient has not abstained three days

Stability

Ambient: 2 hours
Refrigerated: 24 hours (motility cannot be reported)
 

Testing Information

Note

If specimen is over 2 hours old, motility cannot be reported, and a note will be appended to the report
