Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Preferred: Plasma, one 3.0 mL mint green (lithium heparin, PST) top tube, also acceptable: Serum, one 5.0 mL gold (SST) or 7.0 mL red top tube

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: SST - 30 minutes and red top tubes - 60 minutes). Centrifuges and separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Use a transfer pipette to aliquot serum or plasma.

1.0 mL Serum/Plasma

0.5 mL Serum/Plasma (1.2 mL minimum whole blood draw)
