Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Blood should be drawn following an overnight (12-14 hour) fast. INFANTS, draw before the next feeding. Water can be taken as needed.

Collect

Plasma, one green (sodium heparin) top tube

Handling

Immediately place specimen on wet ice. Maintain specimen on wet ice and process within 4 hours of draw. Centrifuge at 4°C and freeze. PROTECT FROM LIGHT.

Frozen, protected from light

Rejection Criteria

Plasma separator tubes (PST) or specimens not protected from light

Stability
