Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Use an iodine wipe to prep venipuncture collection site. Do NOT use isopropyl alcohol to clean arm.

Collect

Whole blood, one 4 mL grey top tube (potassium oxalate anticoagulant, sodium fluoride preservative). Invert carefully after collecting the specimen.

Handling

Collect legal blood alcohols under Chain of Custody conditions using a Custody and Control Form. Complete all items on the Custody and Control Form.

Seal blood specimen with security seals from the Custody and Control Form immediately after collection. Do NOT process specimen or break the security seals.

Enclose specimen in secure transport bag along with completed Custody and Control Form and forward to LLS MetroLab for forensic testing.
