Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Avoid collecting multiple tubes.

Collect

Serum, one 5.0 mL gold (SST), or one 7.0 mL red top tube

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum:  SST – 30 minutes and red top tubes – 60 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours.

 

Do not submit multiple tubes, only submit one tube.

1.5 mL serum

Minimum Volume

0.7 mL serum
