Guidelines

Test performed by specific request only. For routine ANA Screen order ANA ELISA Screen Reflex IFA (ANA R-IFA)

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum, one gold (SST) top tube

Handling

Allow blood tube to clot for 30 minutes. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately. Pour serum into a plastic tube.

Preferred Volume

0.5 mL serum

Minimum Volume

0.3 mL serum (whole blood 0.6 mL minimum draw)

Transport

Refrigerated if arrival in the Legacy Central Laboratory is within 48 hours. Freeze if transport requires longer than 48 hours.

Rejection Criteria

Plasma and other body fluids; severely lipemic or bacterially contaminated specimens

Stability

Refrigerated (2-10°C): 1 week; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 2 months
