Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Whole Blood, lavender (EDTA) top tube or Bone Marrow in EDTA

Handling

Specimens must be received at ARUP within 48 hours of collection due to lability of RNA.

Preferred Volume

5.0 mL Whole Blood or 3.0 mL Bone Marrow

Minimum Volume

1.0 mL Whole Blood or 1.0 mL Bone Marrow

Transport

Refrigerated

Rejection Criteria

Serum or plasma, specimens collected in preservatives other than EDTA, severely hemolyzed, frozen or clotted whole blood or bone marrow

Stability

Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable
