BCR-ABL1, Qualitative with Reflex to BCR-ABL1 Quantitative Mnemonic BCR RLFX Guidelines For use in detecting the presence of a BCR-ABL1 fusion, for determining breakpoint status, and for baseline quantitation. For ordering guidelines see ARUP. Specimen Collection Requirements Collect Whole Blood, lavender (EDTA) top tube or Bone Marrow in EDTA Handling Specimens must be received at ARUP within 48 hours of collection due to lability of RNA. Preferred Volume 5.0 mL Whole Blood or 3.0 mL Bone Marrow Minimum Volume 4 mL Whole Blood or 1.0 mL Bone Marrow Transport Refrigerated Rejection Criteria Serum or plasma, specimens collected in preservatives other than EDTA, severely hemolyzed, frozen or clotted whole blood or bone marrow Stability Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable Testing Information Note This reflex assay is recommended when the BCR-ABL1 fusion form is not known or unclear. This reflex assay detects the presence of either the p210 (major breakpoint) or p190 (minor breakpoint). If the presence of either the p210 or p190 BCR-ABL1 fusion is detected, then the appropriate quantitative test will be performed. If the fusion form is known, refer to BCR-ABL1, Major (p210), Quantitative or BCR-ABL1, Minor (p190), Quantitative.
