Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Specimens collected by the physician are prepared for transport by expressing the sample into a properly labeled Cytolyt fixative container or prepared slides may also be made by expressing a drop of fluid onto a clean properly labeled glass slide and creating a thin layer prep by pulling the sample across the slide surface with a second slide. Prepared slides should be fixed immediately by immersing them into 95% ethanol. Air-dried slides may also be submitted.

Handling

Submit fluid in Cytolyt fixative or prepared slides in 95% ethanol and properly label the vial with patient’s name, date of birth and site of specimen. Specimen(s) may be transported at room temperature.
