Patient Instructions for Collecting a Timed Urine Sample (24, 48, 72 hours)

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Preferred: 24 hour urine without preservatives, refrigerate during collection. Also Acceptable: Other timed urine collections.

Handling

Collect urine over 24 hours. Refrigerate during collection. Mix urine well before removing aliquot. Record collection time interval and total volume on transport tube and test request form. Legacy Laboratories will adjust the pH to 2 with 6N HCl before testing occurs.
