Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Sample must be drawn before surgery or more than 2 days following surgery. Do not draw in the recovery room

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one 4.0 mL gold (SST) or 3.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube

Handling

Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection.

Preferred Volume

0.5 mL

Minimum Volume

0.1 mL (Whole Blood 0.6 mL minimum draw)

Refrigerated (2-8°C)

Whole blood on clot or hemolyzed samples
