Chromosomal Analysis Chorionic Villus
CVS - Karyotype - Karyotyping - Chromosomes - Chromosome Study - Cytogenetics
Direct preparation testing of the cytotrophoblasts will be performed for sex confirmation and to rule out maternal cell contamination when the sample is sufficient (10.0 mg or greater). Preliminary results will be released at the Director’s discretion. If the sample is insufficient for direct preparation testing and the final result shows apparently normal female, molecular studies to rule out maternal cell contamination are recommended.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Chorionic Villus aseptically placed into a sterile screw-top container covered with tissue culture transport media
Do not place specimen in formalin. Keep the specimen at ambient temperature and transport within 24 hours. Transport media can be obtained from the Cytogenetics Laboratory, by calling (503) 413-4613. Inappropriate handling may result in tissue culture failure.
An estimated weight of 10.0 mg or more
Room temperature within 24 hours of collection
SPECIMENS SUBMITTED IN OR EXPOSED TO FORMALIN. Rejection is only at the discretion of the Cytogenetics Laboratory.
Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Suboptimal, call Cytogenetics Lab at (503) 413-4613
Clinical information including the indication for study must accompany the specimen. This includes the gestational age, ultrasound findings, prenatal screening results, previous reproductive history and any known family history of birth defects. Requisition forms for cytogenetics studies are available upon request.
Classical G-Band Chromosomal Analysis
Cytogenetics interpretation provided. A computer generated karyotype is also provided with each study.
46,XX, apparently normal female
46,XY, apparently normal male
