Specimen Collection Requirements
The biopsy site should be prepared by washing with antiseptic soap and thoroughly rinsing with sterile water. A local anesthetic may be used. DO NOT use alcohol or iodine preparations, as they may affect the viablility of the cells.
A biopsy that includes the dermis
Skin punch biopsy is acceptable. Use sterile technique. Place specimen in a screw-top container and cover with sterile Hanks BSS, normal saline or RPMI transport media. Keep specimen at ambient temperature.
Approximatey 3.0 mm X 5.0 mm
Room temperature within 24 hours of collection
SPECIMENS SUBMITTED IN OR EXPOSED TO FORMALIN. Rejection is only at the discretion of the Cytogenetics Laboratory.

Testing Information
Clinical information including the indication for study must accompany the specimen. Requisition forms for cytogenetics studies are available upon request.
Classical G-Band Chromosomal Analysis
Reference Values
Cytogenetic interpretation provided. A computer generated karyotype is also provided with each study.
Normal range:
46,XX, apparently normal female
46,XY, apparently normal male
