Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Decontaminate site with scrub/prep. Use aseptic techniques per defined procedure.

Collect

Blood or Bone Marrow, one green cap FA Plus bottle per draw.

Supply Item Number - 374375

Handling

Wipe bottle septum with alcohol before inserting blood. Indicate the draw site (e.g. A line, left antecubital, etc.) on the bottle, order, or requisition.

Preferred Volume

10.0 mL

Minimum Volume

1.0 mL blood and any amount of bone marrow

Transport

Room temperature (20-25°C)

Rejection Criteria

Cracked or leaking bottles, refrigerated or frozen specimens

Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable
