Preferably, submit the third tube collected for culture to reduce skin flora contamination.

Decontaminate site with scrub/prep. Use aseptic collection.

Handling

Collect in a sterile, screw-cap container, fluid in blood culture bottle is also acceptable. When using blood culture bottles, wipe septum with alcohol before inserting fluid.

1.0 mL for every test requested
