Guidelines

This is a culture for Neisseria gonorrhoeae from any source other than blood or stool. For genital or urine specimens Chlamydia and Gonorrhea by Amplified DNA, BD Qx is recommended.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Use speculum without lubricant, if applicable. Wipe cervix clean of mucous before culturing. Prep skin.

Routine swab in culture transport system or fluid in sterile container

1 swab, dual swab acceptable

Minimum Volume

1 swab, or 0.5 mL aspirate in sterile container
