Guidelines

Primarily for surgical specimens. Includes anaerobic culture if submitted in anaerobic collection device or capped syringe. Use separate order for throat, nose or nasal wash. Pertussis, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, AFBFungus or Virology may also be ordered separately.

Aseptically puncture the cavity and needle aspirate contents, or aspirate contents through endoscope.

Sinus contents in sterile screw-cap container, anaerobic collection device, capped syringe with needle removed
