The centromeric probe for chromosome 8 is an enumeration probe used to detect hyperdiploidy of chromosome 8. Trisomy 8 is associated with progression from the chronic stage to the acute leukemic phase of myeloproliferative disorders such as chronic myelogenous leukemia. It is the most common numerical aberration found in Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Myelodysplastic Syndrome and chronic myeloproliferative disorders.
