Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

High levels of ascorbic acid interfere with the fructosamine assay. Patients should abstain from ascorbic acid supplements for a minimum of 24 hours before sample collection.

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one gold (SST), lavender (EDTA) or green (sodium or lithium heparin) top tube

Handling

Hemolysis may cause falsely elevated results. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature before centrifuging.
