Guidelines

This is for CSF, BAL, and serum/plasma testing only. For other specimen types please see Herpes Simplex Virus by PCR.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) or BAL in sterile collection container; Serum or Plasma, one 5.0 mL gold (SST) or 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube

Handling

CSF requires STAT handling. Please call a STAT courier in the morning and notify Central Laboratory SPR. Specimens must arrive in the Central Laboratory by noon.

Separate serum or plasma from cells. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to aliquot tube.

1.0 mL

0.5 mL

Nonsterile or leaking container, Heparized plasma
