Synonym

HIV 4 - HIV AB - HIV Combined Antibody and Antigen - HIV Antibodies - HIV Antigen - HIV Screen - HIV Antibody Screen - HIV Antibody - HIV - HIV Ab - P24 Antigen

Includes

A screen for HIV-1 (including Group O) & HIV-2 Antibodies as well as HIV p24 antigen. Reactive results will be reflexed automatically for confirmation.

Guidelines

Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 has been identified as the primary cause of AIDS. This retrovirus is spread by sexual contact, exposure to infected blood or blood products and perinatal transmission. In 1986 HIV type 2 was isolated from AIDS patients in West Africa.

The performance of the assay has not been established for the population of neonates. A disclaimer will accompany the results.

Method

Chemiluminescent Immunoassay (4th Generation)

HIV ½ Differentiation and Confirmation Assay(Immunochromatographic)

Reference Values

Reference Values

Result

Interpretation – 4th Gen

Non-Reactive

HIV antibodies and antigen may be undetectable in very early/acute HIV infection. If early/acute infection is suspected, testing by NAT (HIV-1 RNA Qualitative TMA) should be considered.

See Confirmation

Reflexed for HIV ½ Differentiation and Confirmation Assay (HIV DIFF).

Comments

Reactive results are automatically reflexed to HIV ½ Differentiation and Confirmation Assay.
