Guidelines

Detect HIV-1 co-receptor tropism; determine eligibility for CCR5 antagonist therapy. Procedure should be used for patients with documented HIV-1 infection and viral loads ≥1,000 copies/mL plasma.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Must have a recent HIV viral load of ≥ 1,000 copies/mL. Viral loads should be collected either at the same time, or within the two weeks prior to collection of HIV Trofile®.

Collect

Plasma, two lavender (EDTA) top tubes.

Handling

Centrifuge within 6 hours, and transfer to plastic screw-cap tube. Freeze immediately after centrifugation.

3.0 mL frozen plasma
