Guidelines

Aids in the diagnosis and management of multiple myeloma and related disorders. Preferred test to detect and quantify urinary free light chains (Bence Jones protein).

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

24-hour urine. Refrigerate during collection. Also acceptable: Random urine specimens and urine supernate.

Handling

Transfer two 4.0 mL aliquots from a well-mixed 24-hour collection to individual aliquot tubes (Min: 3.0 mL). Record total volume and collection time interval on transport tube and test request form.

8.0 mL
