Specimen Collection Requirements
An adequate needle biopsy for routine histology, immunofluorescence and possible electron microscopy. A 1.5 cm biopsy with known ends of medulla and cortex is preferred.
The biopsy should be submitted in a clean, covered petri dish and brought immediately to the pathology gross lab. The dish should contain a gauze sponge moistened with saline. The biopsy should be placed on the dish and not on the moistened gauze.
Testing Information
24-36 hours for routine paraffin sections and special stains, 1-2 weeks if electron microscopy is necessary
