Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one red (non SST) or lavender (EDTA) top tube

Handling

Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1.0 mL serum or plasma to an aliquot tube.

Preferred Volume

1.0 mL

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL

Transport

Refrigerated. Also acceptable: Room temperature or frozen.

Rejection Criteria

Whole blood, gel separator tubes, light blue (citrate), or yellow (SPS or ACD solution) top tube

Stability

Unpreserved Ambient 2 weeks; Refrigerated: 15 days; Frozen: 15 days
