Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Amniotic fluid, one sterile container, collected via trans-abdominal amniocentesis

Handling

Do not centrifuge or filter specimens. Keep the specimen refrigerated (2-8°C). Do not freeze specimen. Do not let specimens sit directly on cold packs.  Insulate specimen with bubble wrap or other appropriate packing material when shipped cold.

Frozen, centrifuged, filtered, visible blood or hemolysis, contaminated with meconium, vaginal pool or highly viscous specimens
